NOTES
This is my paternal grandfather, he came to America when he was 9 years old - had family here. We think he came in through Ellis Island about 1906. He was a Naturalized Citizen effective June 29, 1921, at age 23.
Served in WW I, received Purple Heart for a wound in his right hand on October 18th, 1918.I knew him as Grandpa Bus, because my grandfather drove a bus when I was young. We had to use different names for the two sets of grandparents. So Frank and Clara Stefanovich became known as Grandma and Grandpa Bus. He was very loving toward the grandchildren and I always felt I was a favorite among them. I remember on my birthday Grandpa Bus would shake my hand and sneak me a $10 bill.
I am told that when I was still an infant my Grandpa Bus saved my life. Seems I stopped breathing long enough for my mother to make several panicked phone calls trying to find someone to help her. My Grandpa came home and picked me up by my feet and hold me upside down and smacked my backside. I then coughed up a ball of stuff and started to breath again. Thank you Grandpa :).
