NOTES

Catherine Campbell, born October 25, 1783, died August 9, 1844 at the age of 61 years, 7 months, 15 days. Alexander was 23 years her senior and survived her and died, presumably in Fayette County on July 24, 1850 at the age of 90 years, 2 months, 12 days.

The Clan Campbell of Highland Scotland were prominent in civil and ecclesiastical affairs of the early history of the country. Among the Scotch-Irish families who settled in Pa. there were many of the name Campbell.

In Ellis' History of Fayette - regarding Alexander Kelley, Ellis writes in his chapter on Bullskin Twp. on p. 489:  " Alexander Kelley as born in Ireland in 1760, but eighty years ago [book was pub'd in 1882 so written 1880-1881 I'd guess] settled in Westmoreland County.  Later he made his home north of Pennsville, where he died in 1850.  He had sons named Samuel, George, John, James, Paul, Washington, and Campbell, the latter two yet living in the township."
