NOTES

Alexander Kelley is the earliest ancestor known on record in America for the Kelley line. He was born near Belfast Ireland, May 20, 1760. The family spoke of County Donagal and County Tyrone. He married Jane Rodgers (Rogers?), but she died in 1800.

The date of his arrival in this country is about 1782 and he probably settled soon in Pennsylvania, as he married "near Bullskin Township, Fayette County."

His second wife was Catherine Campbell, born October 25, 1783, died August 9, 1844 at the age of 61 years, 7 months, 15 days. Alexander was 23 years her senior and survived her and died, presumably in Fayette County on July 24, 1850 at the age of 90 years, 2 months, 12 days.

In Ellis' History of Fayette - regarding Alexander Kelley, Ellis writes in his chapter on Bullskin Twp. on p. 489:  " Alexander Kelley as born in Ireland in 1760, but eighty years ago [book was pub'd in 1882 so written 1880-1881 I'd guess] settled in Westmoreland County.  Later he made his home north of Pennsville, where he died in 1850.  He had sons named Samuel, George, John, James, Paul, Washington, and Campbell, the latter two yet living in the township."
